This HA6 silicone sealant is suitable for use in reptile and aquatic enclosures. It can be used in wooden vivarium, glass terrariums or plastic. The reason that we recommend a sealant in wooden enclosures is that it stops the moisture from entering the wood, which will lengthen the lifespan of the enclosure. This is especially important for high humidity tanks, or tanks where moisture may spill into the bottom of the enclosure and pool. In glass and plastic, this can strengthen the terrarium or aquarium or repair micro-cracks. This is marine grade sealant. This sealant has no added fungicide which could be harmful to reptiles which may be included in other types of home sealant. It can be used safely with salt water and is resistant to UV.
This sealant should be used and then left to dry for a minimum of 24 hours, recommended 48 hours before a living animal is added back into the enclosure. If you are resealing a habitat that already has an occupant, you will need to be sure that you have a secure and safe alternative home for the duration to allow it to correctly dry and for fumes to dissipate.
